The Statue of Liberty was gifted to the United States by France in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. It was designed by Frédéric Auguste Barthold and Gustave Eiffel, the man behind the famous Eiffel Tower. In New York City, the National September 11 Memorial & Museum serves as a melancholy memorial and place of commemoration for those who perished in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Reconstructed on the site of the World Trade Center, the 8-acre (3.2-hectare) plaza boasts two enormous square reflecting pools with waterfalls that drop into the footprints of the old Twin Towers. It was reopened ten years after the 9/11 of 2001. The names of the nearly 3,000 people who died on September 11, 2001, at the Pentagon, in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing are etched in bronze panels around the rims of the pools that visitors can walk around at the memorial. The museum, which is located beneath the plaza, provides a greater understanding of the significance of that day, while the surrounding plaza is a serene and moving green space.

Washington Monument

A well-known symbol of the National Mall, the 555-foot white shaft of the Washington Monument is a stunning sight, especially when reflected in the lengthy Reflecting Pool at its base. Not everything went according to plan when building the obelisk to honor the country’s first president. Congress gave its approval to the proposal in 1783, but construction didn’t begin until 1848.

After the tower’s height reached 156 feet in 1854, political squabbles and financial difficulties halted construction for a number of years. The Civil War also caused more delays, resulting in the tower’s completion by the Army Corps of Engineers not occurring until 1885.

Inside are engraved stones from states, cities, foreign nations, individuals, and civic groups, many of whom were benefactors who assisted in its private fundraising stages. You can still distinguish the distinct stages of its construction by the three color changes in its facing stones. Regularly occurring temporary exhibitions supplement this exceptional permanent collection, showcasing artwork from various global cultures. United States Holocaust Memorial Museum

The La Brea Tar Pits in Hancock Park provide a rare chance to watch live fossil excavations and discover how they are done. The oil seeped through the rock 40,000 years ago, capturing passing animals who were caught in the fluid and forming the Tar Pits. The fossils were subsequently preserved by the tar over the decades, providing a remarkable window into a bygone era.

Reconstructed fossils of ancient creatures discovered at the site are displayed in the la Brea Tar Pits Museum (previously the George C. One of the most notorious prisons in America was the former federal penitentiary, which was situated on Alcatraz Island in San Francisco Bay. It was open for business for nearly thirty years before closing in 1963 and reopening in 1973 as a tourist destination. This prison housed some of the most notorious criminals in America, such as Al Capone, “Machine-Gun” Kelly, and the “Birdman,” who would later serve as the inspiration for the fictional film The Birdman of Alcatraz.

Over the span of its thirty years of operation, the prison admitted 1,576 prisoners. Although there were 450 cells, each measuring roughly 10 feet by 4 feet, there were never more than 250 at any given time. There were occasions when there were more staff members and guards than there were prisoners. Birds that migrate also call Alcatraz Island home.

Instead of only a historical account of the events, the Alcatraz prison site features an amazing audio recording that gives you a peek into life in the cellhouse. Even former prisoners and Alcatraz guards lend their voices to the narration.

Golden Gate Park

In the center of San Francisco, Golden Gate Park is a wonderful green area with gardens and museums. This used to be a region of dry dunes before construction started in 1871. It also features a network of walking and cycling trails.

The de Young Fine Arts Museum, the California Academy of Sciences (which has a rainforest, planetarium, and Steinhart Aquarium), the Japanese Tea Garden, and the San Francisco Botanical Garden are some of the primary attractions. The final building from the 1915 Panama Pacific Exposition is the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco. Visit the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) in the SoMa District if you’re a modern art enthusiast. The Field Museum of Natural History was established in 1893 to display the biological and anthropological collections assembled for the World Columbian Exposition. It was formerly known as the Columbian Museum of Chicago. In 1905, the name was changed to honor Marshall Field, the owner of a department store, a supporter of the arts, and a significant donor to the museum.

About 20 million objects and specimens from a range of fields, including geology, botany, zoology, and anthropology, are part of the permanent collection. The permanent exhibits on Ancient Egypt, the cultures of North, Central, and South America, and “Sue,” the largest and most complete Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton in the world, are particularly noteworthy. The 110-story Sears Tower, now known as Willis Tower, stood as the highest office building in the world until the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur were constructed in 1996. After three years of construction, the Willis Tower was finally unveiled to the public in 1974. Over 195,000 acres make up Red Rock Canyon, Nevada’s first National Conservation Area and a paradise that perfectly captures the special characteristics of the Mojave Desert. The recreation area is only 17 miles west of the Las Vegas Strip, which is close enough that peak tops may be seen from the Las Vegas Valley, but the ambiance is quite different.

It is an amazing natural wonder that will not soon be forgotten to take in the striking contrast of red sandstone layered through gray limestone in the sheer cliff sides (some of which reach an astounding 1,800 feet). This sandstone is a component of the Navajo Formation, a geologic formation that is widespread in the southwest region of the United States.

The Mob Museum, formally known as the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, is one of Nevada’s most distinctive and remarkable museums.

The museum is housed in a 1933 Neoclassical structure with a unique history that was once the US Post Office and Courthouse. During the well-known Kefauver Committee hearings in 1950, it was one of the venues when some unsavory facts regarding organized crime in Las Vegas and the US were made public.

With the use of interesting, interactive exhibits and film footage, the museum presents the unvarnished history of the Mafia in America. Exhibitions include a wide range of topics, including the culture and dress of the era as well as specific individuals and events.

Over the years, innumerable tourists have come to remember the city’s vivid neon signs as one of the most striking views. One of the city’s most recognizable features became these multi-story advertising beacons.

The historic neon signs that have been abandoned as businesses have faded or as new signs have replaced older icons are being purchased, stored, and in some cases restored by the Neon Museum in an effort to preserve a little portion of the city’s history.

Set on 28 acres, this National Historic Landmark served as the opulent winter residence of James Deering, a 20th-century businessman. The home, which was constructed in 1916, has 34 rooms organized around a central courtyard. The Vizcaya project required more than 1,100 laborers and artisans to finish; many of them were imported from Europe to guarantee design fidelity.
